When to book vegetation work in Central Victoria

There are two busy seasons in this trade. The smart one runs from June to October. The panicked one starts the day the first fire prevention notices go out and doesn't stop until the Total Fire Bans do.

Why winter and spring are better

The ground is firmer after winter, grass is green and easier to cut, and the fire danger period hasn't started. Contractors have more availability, machinery hire is cheaper and easier to book, and the work can be done without watching the fire danger rating every morning.

What happens after the grass cures

Once the grass browns off and the Fire Danger Period is declared, the job gets harder. Machinery restrictions tighten, spark risk goes up, and every decent operator in the region is flat out. Prices don't always rise, but the good crews are booked weeks ahead and some jobs we simply won't run on high-risk days.

Council notice timing

Most councils send fire prevention notices in late winter or early spring with a deadline somewhere around November. If you wait until the notice lands, you're in the queue with everyone else. If you book in winter, the work is done before the deadline and before the heat.

The best booking window

For fire season prep, June to September is ideal. For general maintenance, any time outside the Fire Danger Period works. For building site prep, book us after you have the BAL or bushfire report in hand, but well before you want to start construction.
