Land clearing, forestry mulching, slashing and bushfire prep across regional Victoria.

    Local, on the ground

Land clearing, forestry mulching, slashing and bushfire prep across regional Victoria.

Ironbark Vegetation Management is a Bendigo based land clearing and vegetation management contractor working across Central Victoria, roughly a 150km radius of Bendigo. Forestry mulching, land clearing, slashing, blackberry and gorse removal, APZ and bushfire prep, fence lines, access tracks, storm and flood cleanup, we cover the lot. Whether you are on a hobby property outside Ballarat, a lifestyle property in the Macedon Ranges, a working farm out past St Arnaud or a bush property up against the ranges, we quote on site, work to a written scope, and leave the job clean.

    • 01Victoria has some of the highest bushfire risk country in the world. Every rural property, hobby farm, lifestyle property and bush-fringe home carries a fuel load that needs managing before the fire danger period, not during it. We work to CFA standards for Asset Protection Zones and defensible space.
    • 02Declared weeds are a Victoria wide problem. Blackberry, gorse, serrated tussock and willow are all Weeds of National Significance and landholders across the state have a legal responsibility to control them under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994. Mechanical clearing plus a follow-up spray plan is the standard approach.
    • 03Forestry mulching is the most efficient way to reduce fuel loads on regional Victorian properties. One pass, no burning, no haul-away, and the mulch stays on-site as a weed suppressing layer that holds moisture and feeds the soil. It works on Box Ironbark, Mallee, gum forest, tea tree and river red gum country alike.
    • 04We travel across Central Victoria as our home patch and work further afield for the right job. Book early for the fire season, spring and summer schedules fill up fast right across the state.

    Common Questions

    Victoria, asked and answered.

Do you work across the whole of Victoria?

We are Bendigo based and cover Central Victoria as our regular patch. For larger jobs, contract work and multi-day bookings we travel further across regional Victoria, up into the north, out to the west and across to the ranges. Send your address and the job details and we will let you know honestly whether it is a fit.

What are the main services you offer across Victoria?

Forestry mulching, land clearing, slashing, blackberry and gorse removal, Asset Protection Zone (APZ) clearing, bushfire prep, fence line clearing, access tracks and driveway maintenance, storm and flood recovery, and vineyard and solar farm row slashing. All quoted on site, all done to a written scope.

Do I need a permit to clear vegetation in Victoria?

It depends on where you are and what you are clearing. Native vegetation is regulated under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and most Victorian councils enforce planning permits for removal beyond an exemption. Weeds like blackberry, gorse, serrated tussock and willow do not usually need permits. We can point you in the right direction and always quote assuming you have any permits you need in place.

How far in advance should I book for fire season in Victoria?

Winter and early spring. By October every good contractor across Victoria is booked out and leaving it any later usually means the work does not get done at all. Book early, get a proper on-site quote, get it scheduled before the Fire Danger Period locks in.
